Personal Biography, Education and Selected Exhibitions Born in Washington, D.C. in 1964, Maggie McEleney started exhibiting her work in her late teens, while attending the University of Maryland, studying philosophy. In 1988, she moved to New Orleans, and, after exhibiting her work for several years in local galleries, returned to academic studies at the University of New Orleans to receive training in graphic design. Her influence in painting comes from many sources, including painters from the early Renaissance and early Expressionists, especially Van Gogh. Her themes generally focus on historical, religious and mythological references as well as by her own varied and enigmatic experiences. Her strongest sources of inspiration have been Caravaggio and Dr. Suess. Maggie now owns and operates her own gallery, Gallery Gorgon, located in the Lower Garden District in New Orleans and also does freelance work as a graphic designer.
